Hi, I'm Gokulakannan Sakthivel(Gokul). I focus on building useful and impactful AI systems that translate research into real-world applications. Previously, I’ve worked as an Applied AI and Cloud Engineer, developing NLP-based solutions for industry and research. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Applied Machine Learning at the University of Maryland and working with Prof. Pratyush Tiwary on foundation language models for RNA.🧬

About me

Hi, I’m Gokul, an Applied Machine Learning graduate student at the University of Maryland. My work centers on building scalable, production-grade AI systems, combining machine learning, cloud-native architectures, and AI-driven scientific applications. Currently I am working with Prof Pratyush Tiwary on building good foundational models for RNAs!

Previously I worked as an AI Engineer at Centre for Responsible AI, IITM under the guidance of Dr. Sudarsun Santhiappan. Owing to my passion for research, I have contributed to several labs, scientists and professors some of them include Prof Sainyam Galhotra(Cornell University), Prof Procheta Sen (University of Liverpool), Prof Jing Zhang(UC Irvine), Prof Tarak Patra(Patra Research Lab, IITM) and Dr. Rosly Lyngdoh(ISRO). I am glad and grateful that I have been mentored by them!

Professionally I have contributed as Azure Cloud Engineer(1 year) and ML Engineer(2 years 7 months) at Eli Lilly, ThirdAI Automations(3 months) and Center for Responsibel AI at IITM(5 months).
